Set in the heartland of Burns Country, Old Rome offers easy
access to the Burns Heritage Trail covering Kilmarnock,
Irvine, Mauchline and Alloway. The Tam O’Shanter Experience
at the Burns National Heritage Park, Ayr is only 25 minutes
away by car.

For historians, and the kids, Ayrshire has an impressive
selection of castles and fortifications: Dean Castle and
Country Park is only 10 minutes away in nearby Kilmarnock;
Culzean Castle and Country Park (National Trust) in Maybole
is 40 minutes by car; Kelburn Castle and Country Centre
in Fairlie is 40 minutes by car; and Dundonald Castle, a
recently restored ruin, is right on our doorstep.
- Outside
Kilmarnock, there are plenty of quiet corners where you
can really get away from it all. Towards the south of Ayrshire,
Loch Doon and its surrounding countryside offers breathtaking
scenery and the perfect place for hill walkers or a great
spot for a picnic.

you fancy a stroll along the beach or even just an ice cream,
the pretty seaside town of Troon is just 10 minutes drive
away.

For the seafarer, the ferry to the famous Isle of Arran
or less well known Isle of Cumbrae are a only a short drive
away and both offer an excellent day out for the family.
- Glasgow,
with its many visitor attractions and some of the best shopping
in Europe is only 35 minutes away by car or rail. Edinburgh,
our famous capital city is approximately 1˝ hours away by
car and can be easily reached by train via Glasgow.
- Just
north of Glasgow, about an hours drive, are the spectacular
“bonnie bonnie banks” of Loch Lomond. This has to be one
of the most picturesque areas in the world and should not
be missed.
